Court orders Mississauga man to pay $16k to banquet hall after failing to pay for wedding

The Brampton Small Claims Court ordered Akmal Chaudhry (pictured) of Mississauga to pay $16,514.36 in damages and legal costs to a Mississauga banquet hall after failing to pay for his wedding.

Documents filed in Court indicated, “the Defendant requested to rent a hall from the Plaintiff for the Defendant’s wedding reception, to take place at the Premises on August 6th, 2016…On [that date] the Defendant’s wedding reception took place at the Premises, wherein the Defendant and hundreds of his guests received the benefit of the Plaintiff’s event-space and food.”

Despite the fact that Mr. Chaudhry signed According to the Plaintiff’s Claim, “the Plaintiff made numerous requests for payment; however, the Defendant failed to make such payment, and consistently avoided the Plaintiff”.

The Court heard a Motion for an Assessment of Damages on July 3rd, 2018. “On reading the affidavit and upon the submissions of counsel, the Plaintiff shall have judgment in the amount of $15,814.36 plus $700 for costs” wrote Deputy Judge Marty Klein in a court order dated the same date.

Mr. Chaudhry’s last known address is 1755 Audubon Blvd., Mississauga, ON, L4W 3X2, but he is believed to have moved.
