Draft and negotiate a separation agreement in Ontario

Description

Getting a separation agreement can avoid a lot of disputes in family court. Instead of spending large amounts of money on legal fees and court appearances, couples who are both willing to negotiate in good faith should consider signing a mutually agreed upon "separation agreement" to resolve issues in a cost-effective and cooperative way.

Fees

Our lawyers charge hourly fees for this type of service. The hourly rate depends on the seniority of the lawyer assigned to the case. A non-refundable consultation fee is charged for your initial consultation, and retainer fees start at $3,000+HST. Court fees and other out-of-pocket expenses are additional.

This service is not available on a flat-fee basis, because no two separation agreements are the same. It is impossible to predict how many hours of work our lawyers will need to perform, depending on the level of cooperation between the parties involved. Sometimes couples agree on everything in an amicable way, and sometimes they spend months negotiating the terms of their separation agreement. Therefore, we charge by the hour for this service, and clients only pay for the time and expenses that we committed.
