Does someone owe you money? Maybe you gave a friend a personal loan, or maybe you are a small business in Ontario with unpaid invoices.
In Ontario, the Small Claims Court is a branch of the Superior Court of Justice. It deals with civil disputes of a monetary value of up to $35,000 (CAD) (as of January 1st, 2020). Please note that the video below was created prior to the increase in the limit.
If you are owed up to $35,000, our licensed paralegals can help you collect money in Small Claims Court. Unlike a collections agency, we can go to court, and seize the assets of the debtor, such as their bank accounts, real estate, cars, boats, etc.
Our paralegals charge hourly fees for this type of service. The hourly rate depends on the seniority of the paralegal assigned to the case. A non-refundable consultation fee is charged for your initial consultation, and retainer fees start at $3,000+HST. Court fees and other out-of-pocket expenses are additional.
If you win your case in Small Claims Court, you can claim a portion of your legal expenses against the debtor.
