Eva Janta

Eva Janta earned two law degrees from law schools in both Canada and the United States. She is a graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Law (Michigan) and Windsor Law School (Ontario).

Eva was Called to the Bar in Ontario in 2016 and she practices in family lawyer, criminal defence and wills & estate law at KPA Lawyers. She works primarily in Toronto, but represents clients across all of Ontario.

Eva has represented clients in Superior Court trials, Ontario Court trials, guilty pleas at both levels, bail hearings, and at the Court of Appeal.

Family Law

Eva’s family law practices includes divorce, separation, child custody and support, spousal support, division of net family property, disputes regarding matrimonial homes, etc.

Estate Law

Eva is skilled in drafting wills, estate administration and estate disputes. She also utilizes industry-leading software to ensure all of her clients receive the absolute best and most detailed services possible. 

Criminal Defence

She has defended clients with matters that range from simple matters, like thefts under $5000, to more serious matters, like sexual assault, aggravated assault, and importation of controlled substances.

Notable Cases

  • R. v. P and W
    Client was charged with armed robbery. Robbery caught on surveillance. Eva’s client was acquitted.
  • R. v. C
    Client failed to attend criminal trial. Eva obtained an acquittal for her client regarding the charge of failure to attend.
  • R. v. B
    Client charged with various domestic charges. Crown was seeking at least 5 years in jail. Eva convinced Crown to agree to time-served before completion of trial. Client was released.
  • R. v. C
    Client was charged with sexual assault. Eva got her client released during COVID with credit for time served waiting for trial.
  • R. v. A
    Client charged with assault and mischief. Eva obtained an absolute discharge for her client, which means that her client received no criminal record, no fine and no jail time. Client agreed to perform volunteer hours.
